Class Choices for Machine Knitting

If you're interested in machine knitting and are curious to see what it's all about, you may be wondering how to get started. Whether you own a knitting machine or not, The Knitting Studio offers different options to help you know where to begin.

Our list of current classes:

This is a one day 2 hour class to give you a taste of what machine knitting is like. A machine will be reserved for you once you sign up and yarn as well as tools will be available for you to use in class. The instructor will demonstrate how to use the machine throughout the class and give individual help. By the end of class you will have learned how to cast on/cast off and create a knitted swatch.

Level 1 is a four week course with 2 hour classes. A machine will be reserved for you once you sign up and swatch yarn as well as tools will be available for you to use in class. Throughout this course you will gain a better understanding of the basic function and foundation of machine knitting operation and maintenance. Multiple stitch techniques will be demonstrated each week and you will have time to practice knitting several fabric swatches. A swatch book is a helpful tool for keeping track of the information for all the different kinds of fabrics you knit. This can be made by saving these knitted samples in a binder. Also, this can be used for inspiration when deciding what to create and what kinds of stitches to use. You will also have a chance to design and knit a final project with the yarn of your choice.

Sometimes learning can easier when you have a chance to go at your own pace. There could also be something specific that you would like to focus on and learn, which may not currently be offered in the other classes. Private lessons are located at the Knitting Studio and are one hour in length. To request a private lesson and schedule a time and day, you can send an email through the classes or contact page.

Announcements through our website and social media will be made for our workshop details and dates. There are many things that make these knitting machines special. Lace carriages, Intarsia carriages, weaving, designing patterns on punch cards, and creating garments are just some of the themes we'll cover in our workshops. If you'd like to see a particular theme happen for one of our Machine Knitting Workshops, we'd love to hear from you!

In each of these classes there will be finished machine knitted samples to look through as well as inspiration, and swatch books to introduce you to the variety of items, which are or can be made with knitting machines.

Machine Knitting is extremely versatile and a lot of fun! We hope this post has given you an idea on where to start. Please send us an email if you have any questions.
